What Is A TriathlonGo to Top Of Page

What is a triathlon? Simply put, a triathlon is a race that starts with a swim, then transitions to a bike race and finishes with a running race.

Triathlons come in all flavors from very easy to seemingly impossible.

If you are interested in doing your first triathlon, I recommend that you pick a very easy race in terms of distances and conditions. There are many “Tri For Fun” types of races that involve short distances and pool swims.

All you need to do is sign up and then go for it! (See Finding A Triathlon for more information.)

If you are looking for a bigger challenge in terms of distance and conditions, I recommend finding a training group and/or a triathlon coach.

There are lots of triathlon books, but I recommend starting out with knowledgeable triathletes who can demonstrate proper technique.

Many gyms and health clubs have triathlon clubs; a Google search should yield plenty of contact information for your location. Click here to search for Triathlon Clubs.

USA Triathlon also offers quite a bit of information about triathlon clubs.
