The Tyrannical Scale

If Thomas Jefferson wrote these words today, what could he be talking about?

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, having its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

I’ll give you another hint, that Mr. Jefferson wrote a few paragraphs later:

"A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."

Who is the tyrant that is unfit to rule us? The answer my friends is the SCALE.

Mr. Scale used to dominate my life. I would get on my scale morning, noon and night and whatever number appeared would dictate how I would spend my day. If the number was up, I would be down and vice versa. I would adjust my entire life to fit what I thought that scale should say. To get the number I wanted when I wanted, I would crash diet and crash exercise. Ultimately the number did not arrive or stay where I wanted and I would get down on myself. The number would continue to go up.

I finally came to a realization: the only thing I did consistently in my life was step on my scale. Everything else was up and down. The only thing that remained balanced in my life was that scale. (I made sure the Detecto people regularly serviced it!).

My eating and exercise became more consistent, my trips to the scale more sporadic. My life was more balanced and I had more focus. I eventually saved my own life by liberating myself from an unhealthy lifestyle. Today I have life, liberty and pursue happiness by helping people get healthy. The tyrant scale is no longer in my house.
